The title tale is a version of "Cinderella'. Familiar stories "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Sleeping Beauty" are included (though the endings are different that more modern versions), as well as odder tales like "Bluebeard" . These early French tales are much more like the later Grimm's tales than Andersen's, with the touch of gruesomeness intended to keep readers and listeners on the straight and narrow. New.
