Quarto in the original marbled apper covered boards; handsomely respined in dark maroon polished calf with gilt-lettered spine label. 492 pp. With 12 full page engraved plates including tortures and a multiple public burning. Some rubbing to the original boards, offsetting opposite some of the engravings, small corner chip frontis plate margin. Light tidemarkings to the two front blanks and the frontis. There are a few contempory pencil notations in the margins which we have left untouched. A history of the Inqusitions beginning some historical background the starting in ernest with the Papal reign of Innocent III. The Appendix contains short transcriptions of cases and proceedings and anecdotal items and a particularly gruesome detailed description of execution by burning. Written and intended with a clear anti-Catholic view. Very Good. Item #E20399
