Illustrated with full page reproductions and photographs. The Second Edition, so stated on the title page. A tight, generally fine example; label on front pastedown corner states that proceeds arising for the sale of the book would be used for the benefit of the Monastery of St. Clare in Bordentown, New Jersey. Biographical work on the life and deeds of Saint Clare of Assisi (1194-1253) one of the first followers of St. Francis of Assisi and founder of the monastic order for women named The Order of The Poor Women (renamed for her after her death and today commonly known as the "Poor Clares"). She was canonized by Alexander VI in 1255, only two years after her death, an uncommonly short period for the Church in those centuries. Any early ediiton of this book is quite uncommon; it first appeared in 1901 and, after this edition, was not reprinted until the 1990s. Fine. Item #E20355
