Amelia Opie, nee Alderson (1769-1853) was a British author of the Romantic period, one time friend of Mary Wollstonecraft, Scott an Sheridan, and an avid abolitionist. She wrote her first piece "The Dangers of Coquetry" when she was 18 and this and some poetry, were published anonymously; her first published novel under her own name was "Father and Daughter" (1801) and was quite well recieved as were her subsequent volumes of poetry and additinal novels, and she continued to publish until about 1828. She became a Quaker and devoted her final years to charity work. "illustrations of Lying" is considered a transitional work as she became more didactic in her writing after turning to Quakerism. Very Good. Item #E19999
