Memoirs of Peter II (1923-1970), the last King of Yugoslavia ,, who reigned 1934 (regency until March, 1941) to 1945. He and his government were utterly opposed to Nazi Gremany, although Yugoslavia joined the Tri-Partite Pact; two days after signing it, he was made King at age 17 after a British supported coup-d'etat. Germany invaded less than a month later and Peter was forced to flee first to Greece, then to British-held Palestine and finally to London. He joined the RAF and performed diplomatic functions during the war but after the conflict ended, he was not allowed to return home and settled in the United States; he died in Denver in 1970 and was buriied in Illinois and to date is the only European monarch to be interred in the U.S. new.
