Essays on Shakespeare's Dramatic Character of Sir John Falstaff, and On His Imitation of Female Characters; To which are added, Some General Observations on the Study Of Shakespeare

London: J. Murray, 1789. Second edition. Wraps. 12mo in original plain paper wraps. 96 pp. Fore edge uncut. Half title reads: "Essay On Falstaff, &c./ [Priced sewed Two Shillings]". The second edition, the first being the previous year. Wraps with moderate even soiling and a old round small sticker top corner and though still tight lacking the spine strip ; interior generally fine and clean. As early as 1820, this was considered a collectible book as referenced in A Catalogue of Rare, Curious, and Valuable Old Books on sale by Alfred Russell Smith (it would have cost you 3 shillings 6 in those days). Hubbard's Shakespeariana notes that there is no apparent difference between this edition and the 1788. Very Good. Item #E16986
