Fedora or, The Tragedy in the Rue De La Paix

Stiff wrappers printed in black and with red banner declaiming "The Great Detective Story'; rear wrap is advert for Colaline Corsets. 299 pp. plus 5 "specimen" pp. of exerpts from other novels. Front wrap notes that "Fedora" was "performed by Sarah Bernhardy and Fanny Davenport". Translated from the French. Wraps evenly soiled and rubbing along tghe front gutter fold; some dampstaining to the edges of the text block that extends somewaht int the interior margins of the text. Belot's novel was transformed into a play and first performed in Paris in late 1882, starring Sarah Bernhardt; Bernhardt was a smash with local theatre critis beside themselves with praise as the Paris reporter for the New York Times exclaimed , "... the actress has outdone herself in her latest creation [and] has won her greatest, her most legitimate triumph..." Quite scarce, especially in this cheaply produced "pocket" edition. Good. Item #E14339
