Behind The Guns with American Heroes; An Official Volume of Thrilling Stories, Daring Deeds, Personal Adventures, Humorous Anecdotes, and Pathetic Incidents of the Spanish-American War and Our Battles With the Philippine Insurgents

Chicago: International Publishing, 1899. First edition. Hardcover. First edition. Royal octavo sized volume ( 8" x 10") in grey cloth lettered in gilt and decorated in light blue and black. Patterned endpapers. x+ pp. 34 to 503 (as issued). Over 100 full page plates, mostly drawings and a few photographs and with small dawings in the text. Folding color map of Cuba laid in at rear. The individual chapters were purportedly written by such figures as Admiral Dewey, Col. Theodore Roosevelt, Adm. Schley, Gen. Miles, etc as well as by ordinary soldiers and sailors. For good measure, Buel threw in "many exciting reminiscences of our Great Civil War, War with Mexico, War of 1812, War of the Revolution, and our Indian Wars". A tight example, gilt lettering on the cover somewhat tarnished and spine lettering dulled; light spot to the lower front right tip. Very Good. Item #E13653
