First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1664 and housed for many years the only English-speaking congregation in the colony and remains on the same site today; St. John's (Episcopal) was founded in 1706 and until 1855, both Episcopalians and Roman Catholics (including the parents of America's first Catholic Saint, Elizabeth Ann Seton) worshipped there.
