Very good, faint corner crease and edges lightly embrowned. New Jersey history. Located on the Delaware River in Gloucester County, Byllynge Point (or Billingsport, now in Paulsboro Township) was one of the earliest named places in the province of West Jersey, settled first by the Swedes around 1638. By 1677, it had been named "Byllyngs Port" after Edward Billings, a Quaker of the area. It was the site of a fort during the American Revolution, placed there as part of the defenses of Philadephia. It was fortified again during the War of 1818 and in the 1880s, the government erected a lighthouse on its shore. Very Good. Item #E23980
