Frontis engraved portrait of the author. 388 pp. nine additional portraits, two maps, and two other illustrations. Good only. Fading to the cloth with some light staining about the edges. The all the plates have tidemarking to one corner, the first several pages also have tidemarking, gradually diminishing further into the book. The Presbyterian mission at Futtehgurg was founded in India the 1830s. By the time of the Sepoy Rebellion in 1857, the surrouding area had become heavily Christian as well, On June 13, 1857, the mission was attacked and eight of its missionaries were executed. J.Johnston Walsh, the author of this work, was the sole survivor among the missionaries. Good. Item #E23968
