First edition. Black cloth with spine lettered in gilt. Published anonymously, the story of a London West End prostitute. Purportedly a work of non-fiction, it is now generally considered to be not only a novel but also the first book by Jonathan Gash, who would latyer gained world fame as the creator of the "Lovejoy" antiques mysteries (which in turn were the basis for the wildly popular television series starring Ian McShane in the title role). A generally fine example, gilt bright, a touch cocked, In the rather palin looking and fragile pink paper dust wrapper printed in black. Wrapper is very good or a bit better.
